How much more dangerous is the MOX fuel?

Its not more dangerous because plutonium oxides are not volatile. Plutonium is a media hyperbole word.

Its the fission products that are dangerous in a severe accident.

The real danger of MOx fuel is economically degrading perfectly good startup fuel for MSRs - isoptic degrading - turning it into 'real' waste.

All expensive MOx fuel should be stopped and the money put into MSR tech and advanced reprocessing.

I don't really understand the issues about Unit 3's MOX fuel. The spent fuel from the other units has plutonium in it too, just less, by less than a factor of 10. Details of exactly what happened when to unit 3's cooling system will have a much larger effect than that.

Its mostly media hype. Plutonium oxides aren't volatile. They won't go far into the air in large quantities. The only thing of concern would be that the plutonium dissolves in the sea water cooling and the seawater cooling leaks out to sea. This is less than decent, but even then the sea simply diffuses it and it is not a public health issue. Could be a worker issue for cleanup etc. but fission products are much more troubling in that sense.

Apparently MOX fuel isn't saving the Japanese any money, which doesn't surprise me at all:

MOX imports have cost at least ¥99.4 billion, much higher than uranium fuel

The primary purpose of the MOX imports from sellafield appears to have been to gain experience operating with the fuel prior to the startup of their own full scale reprocessing plant.
