Thanks, a great article. This does require more outreach.

One thing to add though. Even the national and international science bodies that have embraced LNT admit, that it should NOT be used to determine health risks where large numbers of people are involved receiving very small doses. That is something that Greenwar and Foes of the Earth do in the constant quest to discredit environmental and health science with environmentalism.

For me there is no good and reliable data so this topic is just he said she said finger pointing by both sides.

This is how a FUD, (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt), attack works. You rase doubt by telling half truths, lies, and rumors, then get others to repeat them enough times until the public who don’t have the time to research the subject in detail give up, and believe there must be some truth to your story line. This is a well known practice in advertising.

I remember back on the tenth anniversary of Chernobyl Green Peace stated that 500,000 Russians had died since the Chernobyl nuclear accident. The implication was this was because of the nuclear accident, however that statement was also true for the ten years before the nuclear accident. You can see how an un-skeptical person could be tricked into thinking that 500,000 people died because of the Chernobyl accident.

The citizen crowdsourcing radiation information group SAFECAST has put out an updated paper on current stats for the fukushima region. The basic gist is that the government numbers for the surrounding areas are now mostly in sync with the crowdsourced data.
