If you add thorium and do at least breakeven breeding then I wouldn’t call that a plutonium burner. It is a U/Pu to U233/Th cycle transitioning machine. Waste burning is only one of the goals, the other is to get rid of coal, which it does by using thorium/U233 breeding. The cool thing about the LFTR is that it achieves numerous goals in just one reactor design.
snip snip :)

I am a tax payer and an environmentalist,
any IV generation machine that can burn, onsite to existing PWR and Heavy water, spent fuel with out the perceived evils of
transport
national interim storage
national reprocessing
national geological deposition

would have that killer app the BRC.gov commission is looking for, and congress could buy into!
So,
are there PWR and heavy water designs that can utilize Thorium at an early stage and together?
IE the PWR Thorium and the spent fuel is DUPIC processed into heavy water fuel
The heavy water reactor uses both spent fuel(DUPIC and Natural Uranium= slightly enriched Uranium ?) and fresh Thorium.
Both PWR and heavy water spent fuel, including Thorium radiated by the heavy water reactor should be conducive to onsite DUPIC/fluoride processing, for a MSR
can we?
