Gordon McDowell has recently posted two videos that I'd like to spotlight. One is interview footage of David LeBlanc and Chris Popoff of Terrestrial Energy. Most or all of the interview was conducted in December 2013. The video is essentially raw footage, not a polished presentation.

Nuclear in Alberta: Molten Salt Reactors to Lower Oilsands Carbon Footprint (1:13:19)

David was especially positive about the regulatory environment in Canada. As he puts it, US regulators are rules based, while Canadian regulators are performance based. That means it is far easier to make the case to Canadian regulators for molten salt reactors because they perform well in so many ways. David's optimism on this point was the most encouraging and inspiring molten salt reactor news I've heard so far this year. His comments on those themes appear in the video from 11:50-21:20.

I don't know if David has already announced this on the Energy from Thorium forum, but his company is working with a 7-year timeline to get a small demonstration reactor in operation. They are planning to have the reactor in operation by 2021, provided they can obtain the funding they need.

The second video is a polished presentation that combines several sources, primarily a 2012 interview with ORNL researchers Dick Engel and Syd Ball. This new version is edited and polished with multiple sources to set the context and provide background. It introduces the viewer to ORNL's MSR work during the 1960s and 70s. It is a much more satisfying way to view the Engel-Ball interview and the ORNL tour with Baroness Bryony Worthington.

MSRE: Alvin Weinberg's Molten Salt Reactor Experiment - "Th" Thorium Documentary 09 (44:31)

In summary, the first video is raw interview footage that is of interest to molten salt reactor supporters. The second video is a more complete documentary that is of interest to a broader segment of the general public.

Can we get Gordon some kind of award? I honestly have no idea how he feeds himself with as many hours as he has devoted to the cause. He has done so much for the cause; he's the reason I'm here at all. His YouTube channel has 8,900 subscribers with 5M+ views. Heavy hitter.

The Gordon McDowell Scholarship for Energy Education and Dissemination? Maybe some trophy with a Th atom carved on Thor's hammer smiting a BP logo...

The first LFTR commissioned in Canada should have some component with his name stamped on it.

And Kirk deserves just as much praise as Gordon.
He was the guy that awaken thousands of non technical guys to Thorium and MSRs.
It was Kirk+Gordon that got the ball rolling.

Yes, I cannot forget Kirk. He has a confidence and charisma in his delivery that just sells it. When he speaks, I listen.

If any of you in this forum would like to help Gordon a little you could become a patron of his project at https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=72587&patAmt=1 . I have, and the few dollars I have added to the pot will go a lot farther than the usual “give to the needy” you see pitched all of the time.

As an aside, who is going to be at the Thorium Energy Alliance Annual Conference in Palo Alto this June? I'm planing to go.
