This can be another use for a nuclear reactor generated heat.

As far as process heat is concerned, the IMSR targets underground softening of bitumen and other hydrocarbon minerals in Canada.
In preparation of synthetic fuels/carbon chemicals, the nuclear heat could target coal/biomass/municipal waste. I am in favor of co-operation cum competition between various energy sources rather than hostility. This seems unlikely in the US/West Europe but could progress in Eurasia.

The article does talk about 500C, and that is heat that could be useful for making electricity.

Moire of a challenge is to dispose of the 30-60C waste heat in a useful way.

In my "Dictator moments", I would require every nuclear plant to be surrounded by a outdoor swimming pools and water parks, and a few square kilometres of greenhouses.

The hostility needs only one side to exist. And Big Petro-Carbon is hostile.
