As you may be aware, David MacKay died from cancer on 14 April. He will be missed in UK energy circles.

Mark Lynas interviewed him 11 days before he died. ... t-73524038

The article misrepresents some of what he says - even in the title - but the interview is well worth watching - as a tribute if nothing else. MacKay always tried to avoid favouring one technology over another, but with "not much time left", he's favoured nuclear and CCS, as well as solar in certain climates (e.g Australia).

I'm saddened to hear of MacKay's passing, he was obviously a man of intelligence, knowledge, and enthusiasm. I thoroughly enjoyed watching his talks on YouTube and I believe his method of explaining the realities of our energy problems by showing the math is something that should be emulated. It is unfortunate he was taken from us so soon. What is fortunate is that he has made a number of talks that people can view for many years to come.

Disclaimer: I am an engineer but not a nuclear engineer, mechanical engineer, chemical engineer, or industrial engineer. My education included electrical, computer, and software engineering.

How very sad this news, we have lost of the clearest thinkers on energy transitions.

Perhaps a good way to pay tribute: read his book. One of the best books ever written on this topic.

This seems like something David would have really liked:
