So conventional cooling towers lose a lot of water to water vapor loss, thus some environmental restrictions on water consumption rates from rivers and lakes. If the parasitic power loss to recapture that water vapor wasn't bad, you could recover more cooling water/reduce cooling water consumption.

So some bright sparks at MIT think they might have a viable system for cooling tower water vapor capture. Uses electrostatic charging of droplets to force the droplets to be attracted to a oppositely charged capture net/mesh to improve capture rates without being an aerodynamic block.

While this doesn't really help for most MSR's since the higher coolant temps allow dry cooling, this may be of interest for more conventional designs.
