So a nickel vessel likely is OK for the gas phase and is OK for the normal liquid phase of the salt but is problematic if we have F2 gas just above the liquid line and the liquid itself would want something to absorb some of the extra fluorine that may come along since presumably we have no uranium in the liquid to form the UF3/UF4 buffer. If the F2 gas is injected some distance above the liquid level and below the F2 gas injection point the metal is significantly cooled perhaps we end up with a protective layer of frozen salt on the walls. Perhaps we could have a sacrificial metal (like thorium) that will asorb any surplus fluorine in the liquid area in preference to the nickle.
