Yesterday's Wallstreet Journal had this article:
General Atomics Proposes a Plant That Runs on Nuclear Waste
Nuclear and defense supplier General Atomics announced Sunday it will launch a 12-year program to develop a new kind of small, commercial nuclear reactor in the U.S. that could run on spent fuel from big reactors. ...

This helium cooled reactor (called the EM2) would run at 850C, produce 240 MW(e?), and cost $1.7B to develop. The article mentions GA's prior reactor experience, including Peach Bottom and Ft. St. Vrain, but does not mention the numerous operational problems that these reactor had.

The article contains no details on the waste burning. Fast or thermal? Reprocessed or simply re-clad LWR waste?

I could not find any details on the GA website.

This seems like the good old GA GT-MHR, 286 MWe modular reactor, with deep burn TRISO fuel (Sect 5.5.4).

The first prototype was expected 2009-2010 ...
