Has anyone experimented with TRISO fuel cooled by salt? How dirty will the salt get? Which isotopes will leach into the salt? I would expect tritium would end up in the salt.

This is precisely the UCB project with Dr. Peterson.

Ok,
here are my community college student questions,

can spent fuel (DUPIC ?) be incorporated into TRISO?
what is the weight of this with the salt ( 22,000 empty )
smaller makes for a better space based application
might fit nicely into a Delta IV payload fairing, but for the weight

EDIT, I have some emails with DOE's Mr Ryan in regards to, at what point or size a small space based fission reactor that has spent fuel mixed with the HEU would be "self shielding" so a inert salt mixture at launch might help in this regard?

I'm not sure of the gist of your question.

Using the word DUPIC suggests to me that you want to use the used fuel as fuel in a reactor. It isn't rich enough for that unless you are using a heavy water reactor not TRISO.

If I misunderstood and you are thinking of space based disposal this is often suggested but it makes no sense. It takes enormous amounts of energy to move stuff into space so you'd lose the energy game. Second, space launches blow up fairly often. While the used fuel isn't particularly dangerous if handled correctly about the worst thing I could imagine doing with it is to put it up in the air then blow it up with many tons of explosives.

One could conceivably have a heavy water reactor with TRISO fuel.

However, fabrication and handling of DUPIC fuel is a tricky process, requiring remote operations inside hevily shielded "hot cells", followed by transport using shielded flasks, followed by loading into a reactor by way of a shielded loading facility.

TRISO fuel fabrication is far more complex than simple ceramic pellets, so one would generally avoid complicating the process and production facilities even further, by trying to incorporate highly radioactive spent fuel.
However, clean MOX -- meaning chemically processed Pu from spent fuel, without the fission products -- can reasonably be done in TRISO form: In fact this is one of the proposals General Atomics came up with, for weapons Pu disposition....
