SCO2-HeRo Project

Supercritical CO2 turbomachinery has been discussed before in this section of the forum. The following EU-funded project may be of interest and is working on a Supercritical CO2 Heat Removal System for nuclear energy applications:

It's a pity they don't provide any actual information about its performance.

This potentially makes a lot of equipment in an LWR/HWR containment obsolete, if it is compact as it appears to be.
A pair of them get rid of the service shutdown (and possibly the emergency?) coolers for one thing.

It also makes the coolant intake pumps and such non safety critical.

The project runs until August 31st, 2018, so the research is still ongoing and the final results about the performance of this system are likely to be published next year.
