Just like salt and lead, fast and thermal spectra may have their own pluses and minuses.
Fast spectrum means no moderator and more compact core. Irradiated graphite could also mean extra waste.
Thermal spectrum requires lower amount of fissile for criticality.
For some like UK, burning up of more fissile may be a good thing.
Fluoride salt cooling could mean higher operating temperature and higher thermal efficiency. However the UK are giving up their hotter gas cooled reactors in favor of PWR's.
