The 10 Most Insane Requirements Of The Green New Deal
Eliminate nuclear energy. The GND also calls for eliminating all nuclear power, one of the only productive and somewhat affordable “clean” energy sources available to us, in 11 years. This move would purge around 20 percent of American energy production so you can rely on intermittent wind for your energy needs.

Ed Markey pairs with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Green New Deal
Sen. Edward Markey partnered with freshman U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on her controversial “Green New Deal” proposal to cut fossil fuel use and achieve “net-zero” greenhouse gas emissions within 10 years — an idea that one economist said would “significantly” raise the cost of energy. Markey’s move to the left is seen by political analysts as a positioning for his own looming re-election battle — to ward off the kind of progressive challenge that took out former veteran U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano. Markey himself cited the initiative as a looming campaign issue. “This is going to enter the 2020 election cycle,” Markey said at a news conference outside the Capitol with Ocasio-Cortez and several of the resolution’s more than 60 co-sponsors. “The greatest climate denier of them all is in the White House. …The green generation has risen up, and they are saying we want this issue solved. We now have the troops, we now have the money, and we’re ready to fight.” Democratic strategist Scott Ferson said of Markey’s alliance with Ocasio-Cortez, “I think it’s smart on his part. I understand the political calculus of attaching yourself to a rock star like her.”
29-year-old AOC can be forgiven for her youth and ignorance, but what's Ed Markey's excuse?

The Only Green New Deals That Have Ever Worked Were Done With Nuclear, Not Renewables
In 2003 I co-founded a progressive Democratic, labor-environment push for a Green New Deal. We called ours a “new Apollo project,” after the 1969 moonshot. But it was the same green agenda of advocating taxpayer money — we asked for $300 billion — for efficiency and renewables. By 2007 our efforts paid off when then-candidate Barack Obama picked up our proposal and ran with it. Between 2009 and 2015, the U.S. government spent about $150 billion on our Green New Deal, nearly half of which went to renewables. An appallingly large sum — $24 billion — was spent on biofuels, even though everyone knew that they pollute more than fossil fuels. Now we know they also destroy rainforests. Another $15 billion went to energy efficiency, which turned out to be a massive waste of money. Twice as much money was spent weatherizing homes as was saved. The episode disproved the widely parroted myth that efficiency investments always “pay for themselves.” Determined to learn nothing from history, Green New Dealers are now proposing to spend taxpayer dollars weatherizing every building in America.

Meanwhile, the two poster children for renewables — California and Germany — have become models of how not to deal with climate change. Germany spent $580 billion on renewables and its emissions have been flat for a decade. And all of that unreliable solar and wind has made Germany’s electricity the second most expensive in Europe. Emissions in California rose after it closed one nuclear plant and will rise again if closes another. To the extent its emissions declined it was from the replacement of electricity from coal with electricity from cheaper and cleaner natural gas. Bottom line? Had California and Germany spent on nuclear what they instead spent on renewables, both places would already have 100% clean power.
Well, at least Shellenberger realizes that he helped people waste tens of billions of dollars...

'Green New Deal' doc phased out nuclear — until it didn't
As congressional backers of the "Green New Deal" prepared yesterday to roll out a resolution calling for a rapid shift to carbon-free energy, they also released a fact sheet nixing the possibility of building new nuclear power plants. "A Green New Deal is a massive investment in renewable energy production and would not include creating new nuclear plants," read a fact sheet posted on the homepage of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). "It's unclear if we will be able to decommission every nuclear plant within 10 years, but the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible." Within hours, that language had disappeared from the congresswoman's website, and her staff went silent on questions of how and why it vanished.
I had a feeling I should have kept a copy of that "fact sheet"...

Below is a letter I sent to the "Justice Democrats," the political organization that is behind Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Their website is at https://www.justicedemocrats.com/
---------------------------------------------

The Democratic Party has dramatically changed since the thoughtful and dignified era of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, a politician I enthusiastically campaigned for when I was just eleven years old. Back then, Marxists were called communists, not “progressives” as they are today. My own father was a communist professor of religion at Vassar College. He referred to himself as a “socialist” in private, but he was a registered Democrat in public. He had a paid subscription to Soviet Life magazine, and often spoke fondly of the governments of Cuba and the Peoples Republic of China. My father was a Christian Quaker pacifist, and like so many of his professional colleagues at universities around America, he fundamentally agreed with everything Karl Marx said. Back in the early 1960s, stealth communists like my father held minor positions in city governments, but I do not remember any national Democratic Party candidates running for high office under the banner of socialism, let alone communism.

Unlike my father, I was good at mathematics and had no trouble understanding free market economics, and I could see how capitalist countries had a much higher standard of living and more personal freedom than socialist and communist countries. My father and I got into heated debates about politics, but we always loved each other because we accepted each other as we were. I became, and still am, a moderate, free market capitalist Democrat like JFK. I have nothing to do with the Democratic Party of today, however, which I refer to bluntly as a septic tank of insanity. If JFK could be brought back to life today, Democrats would brand him a fascist, a white supremacist, a homophobe, and anti-woman. I myself criticize JFK for being an imperialist. Unlike both Democrats and Republicans, I never felt that America owned the world or should get involved in one counterproductive foreign war after another.

Today’s Democratic Party leaders are reckless and impractical idealists. They have little regard for the human food supply or for the farmers who grow it. Their draconian carbon tax proposals will increase the cost of food while decreasing the income of farmers and poor families who survive on food stamps. Climate change theology has seduced Democrats, and it is definitely not science. It is a religious belief system like Astrology, Scientology, and Marxism. If the weather gets too hot or too cold, if there are storms or no storms, it’s all the result of evil man made global warming, and those who disagree are heretics and traitors to the cause.

Our war on carbon dioxide is a war on life itself because CO2 is the fuel that powers the metabolism of all living things on planet Earth. The ancient ice core records and thermometer based measurements since the Industrial Revolution prove carbon dioxide has no direct effect on Earth temperatures. Satellite photographs have clearly shown that adding more CO2 to our atmosphere has made crops and trees grow faster and more resistant to drought. Taxing carbon dioxide will only increase the cost of food, energy, and everything we humans need to survive.

Climate change has become a big business that universities, so-called “climate scientists,” journalists, politicians, and green scam industries use to make money and gain power. Selling fear is a popular career and a perversely enjoyable pastime for our decadent elite, from billionaire Michael Bloomberg to Al Gore’s loyal disciple, actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Carbon creatures fighting carbon is a symptom of a bored dystopian society's subconscious desire for the peace of death, not the result of the proper use of the scientific method, which does not sanctify and promote hysteria. Jehovah’s Witnesses, Evangelical Christian End Times theorists, and ISIS use similar end-of-the-world prophesies to gain power. It’s the oldest trick in the religious book of demagoguery.

Humans are about 18.5% carbon by weight, eat food made of carbon, live in homes made of carbon, and exhale carbon dioxide with every breath. It is ridiculous to think that we could possibly stop unleashing carbon dioxide, unless, of course, we kill every human on planet Earth. Pathological environmentalism has become essentially the same as the Jonestown and Heaven's Gate suicide cults. That is why on April 14th, 2018, environmentalist David Buckel set himself on fire with gasoline to protest "global warming" after one of the coldest winters on record. Insanity and science are not the same thing. Climate change is emotion based, not science based, just as Marxism is emotion based, not science, and not even reasonable economic policy.
